Introducing the G Major Scale and Simple Chords
Goal: Learn the G Major Scale, the G Major chord, and play a simple melody using both hands.
1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Play these five-finger patterns slowly:
Right Hand
- G – A – B – C – D – C – B – A – G
Left Hand
- G – A – B – C – D – C – B – A – G
Keep your fingers curved and relaxed.
2. Learn the G Major Scale
The notes are:
G – A – B – C – D – E – F♯ – G
Notice that F is sharp (F♯).

- C (1)
- D (2)
- E (3)
- F♯ (4)
- G (5)
Left-Hand Fingering
- G (5)
- A (4)
- B (3)

Practice up and down three times.
3. Learn the G Major Chord
Play these notes together:
G – B – D
This is the G Major Chord.
Practice:
- Play the chord.
- Hold for 4 counts.
- Release.
- Repeat 10 times.
4. Chord Progression Practice
Play each chord for 4 counts:
- G Major: G–B–D
- C Major: C–E–G
- D Major: D–F♯–A
- G Major: G–B–D
Repeat 5 times.
5. Simple Melody
Right Hand:
G – G – A – B | B – A – G
Left Hand:
- Hold a G Major chord during the melody.
Play slowly and evenly.
6. Ear Training
Listen to:
- G Major chord
- C Major chord
- D Major chord
Can you hear which one sounds like “home”? That’s usually the G Major chord in this key.
