Toronto Blue Jays: Final Week Comes Down to the Wire

The Toronto Blue Jays enter the final week of the 2026 regular season with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance.

Toronto is 77–79, sitting fourth in the American League East and three games behind the Chicago White Sox for the final AL Wild Card position. With only six regular-season games remaining, every game has become critical.

Blue Jays Avoid Sweep in Texas

Toronto finished its series against the Texas Rangers on Sunday with an important 7–2 victory, avoiding a sweep.

Brett Bateman reached base and scored three times, while Nathan Lukes helped drive the offence. The Blue Jays collected 11 hits from 10 different players in the victory.

The win was particularly important after Toronto had dropped the first two games of the series.

The Wild Card Chase

Toronto’s position remains difficult but not mathematically settled.

The Blue Jays begin Monday three games behind the final American League Wild Card spot. Baltimore is also in the race, sitting five games behind that position.

Cease underwent an MRI on his throwing shoulder after experiencing a significant drop in velocity. He has been scratched from his scheduled start against Baltimore.

Cease has been one of Toronto’s most important pitchers this season, posting an 11–6 record with a 2.40 ERA and an American League-leading 239 strikeouts entering the latest injury update.

Toronto has already been forced to rely on bullpen games because of injuries to its starting rotation.

Guerrero Jr. Also Being Watched

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left Sunday’s game after experiencing lower-back tightness.

The latest injury information listed Guerrero as probable for Monday’s game against Baltimore, but his availability remains something to watch closely during the series.

Trey Yesavage is also expected to return after recovering from knee surgery and could provide the pitching staff with additional help.

The Blue Jays’ final six games will determine whether they remain in the postseason conversation.

Toronto’s 7–2 victory over Texas kept the door open, but the Blue Jays face a very small margin for error.

The combination of the Wild Card race, injuries to the pitching staff and the upcoming Baltimore series makes this one of the most important weeks of the Blue Jays’ 2026 season.

The next three games in Baltimore could go a long way toward determining whether Toronto’s season continues into October.
