Storm impacts and power outages remain a regional concern
A recent Atlantic weather system brought difficult conditions across the region, with reports indicating that about 11,000 New Brunswick customers lost power during the storm. The same system produced elevated flood concerns in parts of Cape Breton and significant weather impacts in Newfoundland and Labrador.
For Saint John, the City has also issued several traffic notices. A Harbour Bridge traffic disruption is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, while Germain Street and other areas have separate traffic advisories.

Atlantic business expansion
A new 25-unit development agreement has been announced for the Ghost Taco restaurant brand, covering New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. The agreement represents another example of businesses pursuing growth across the four Atlantic provinces.

Public consultation on the next provincial budget
Nova Scotians are being invited to participate in the development of the province’s 2027–28 budget. Public consultations include both in-person and virtual sessions, with the first in-person session scheduled for September 21 in Springhill.

Fall weather arrives
PEI is moving into the final days of summer. A weather update for September 21 calls for showers to end during the afternoon, followed by clearing skies and cooler overnight temperatures. A period of generally dry weather is then expected, which could be favourable for the potato harvest.

Churchill Falls and Gull Island agreement remains a major regional story
The province’s proposed new agreement involving Churchill Falls and Gull Island remains one of Atlantic Canada’s most significant economic and energy developments.
The Newfoundland and Labrador government says the agreement would provide additional electricity, transmission opportunities and major construction employment. The province estimates that the Gull Island project could employ as many as 5,000 workers at peak construction, while 85% of construction person-hours are to remain within Newfoundland and Labrador, with specified priority for qualified Labrador Innu, Labradorians and Newfoundlanders.
