The Toronto Blue Jays have suddenly made the American League Wild Card race very interesting.
Toronto blasted the Kansas City Royals 9–2 on Friday night, moving the Jays back to .500 at 71–71 and pulling them to within one game of the final American League Wild Card position.

Toronto has been playing some of its best baseball of the season at exactly the right time.
The Blue Jays have gone 7–3 over their last 10 games and have won six of their last seven. The turnaround comes after Toronto had fallen as many as 10 games below .500 earlier in the season.

Alejandro Kirk and Ernie Clement each collected two hits and drove in two runs. George Springer also contributed two RBIs, while rookie Sean Keys hit his second major-league home run.
Clement’s first-inning double helped Toronto establish an early lead, and the Jays never looked back.

The biggest concern from Friday’s game was starting pitcher Jameson Taillon, who left after only two innings because of elbow discomfort.
That could become an important storyline as Toronto enters the final weeks of the season. The bullpen stepped up Friday, however, allowing only one run over seven innings, with Michael Lorenzen recording a three-inning save.
