New Brunswick Announces First Seniors’ Week

The Government of New Brunswick has launched the province’s first Seniors’ Week, creating a new annual opportunity to recognize the contributions of seniors throughout the province.
The week, running from September 27 to October 3, celebrates the experience, knowledge and contributions of older New Brunswickers and highlights the important role seniors play in families and communities.
Recognizing New Brunswick’s Seniors
Seniors Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau said the initiative is intended to recognize seniors and encourage active aging and continued involvement in communities.
The province is encouraging New Brunswickers to take time during Seniors’ Week to recognize the seniors in their lives and acknowledge the many ways they contribute to their families, neighbourhoods and communities.
The week also includes National Seniors Day on October 1.
Supporting Seniors Across New Brunswick
The Seniors’ Week announcement comes as the province continues to invest in seniors’ services and long-term care.
Recent provincial announcements include new long-term-care beds in Neguac and Riverview, as New Brunswick works to expand access to care for seniors.
The province has also outlined a broader seniors and long-term-care plan involving investments in long-term care, support for caregivers and measures intended to help seniors remain in their homes and communities for as long as possible.
More Than a Week
For many New Brunswick families, Seniors’ Week is an opportunity to say thank you to parents, grandparents, neighbours, volunteers and friends who have helped build the communities we live in today.
It is also an opportunity to recognize that seniors are not simply part of New Brunswick’s history. They continue to contribute to the province every day through volunteer work, community organizations, family life, business, education and many other activities.
