The Toronto Blue Jays are 63–66, sitting fourth in the AL East and just ½ game out of the final American League Wild Card spot.
🔥 Jays heating up
Toronto has gone 12–7 in August and just took a series from Tampa Bay. On Thursday, the Jays won 5–1, powered by home runs from Kazuma Okamoto, Daz Cameron and Nathan Lukes. Shane Bieber was excellent, allowing one run over seven innings with seven strikeouts.
🏥 Vlad coming back
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is nearing a return after his concussion. He began a rehab assignment Friday and is reportedly on track to return as early as this weekend if he clears the remaining protocol.
⚠️ Giménez update
Shortstop Andrés Giménez left Thursday’s game with right-hamstring tightness. The good news: he showed good strength and mobility and does not currently require an MRI.
🆚 Yankees series
Toronto opens a crucial three-game series in New York tonight. The Yankees are 72–55, so these games have major Wild Card implications for Toronto.
Bottom line: The Jays are playing much better at exactly the right time. If Guerrero returns healthy and Toronto can keep getting strong pitching, the playoff race is very much alive.
