Saint John Today — Saturday, August 22, 2026

🌦️ Weather

Confirmed: Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Saint John and County. Today will reach about 25°C, with increasing cloud late and a 30% chance of showers late afternoon. Rain is expected to begin around midnight, with 10–20 mm possible overnight. More significantly, 50–80 mm of rain is possible across southern New Brunswick from tonight through Monday, with localized flooding possible.

🌊 Bay of Fundy tides

The City of Saint John’s current conditions page lists the next high tide at 5:21 a.m. and the next low tide at 11:31 a.m.; it also reports the Bay of Fundy level at 5.6 m / 18.6 ft at the time of its latest update.

🚢 Cruise ships

Confirmed: There is no Saint John cruise-ship call today. Holland America’s Volendam, which visited Saint John on August 17, returned to Boston this morning to end that sailing.

👮 Police & public safety

Confirmed: I found no new major Saint John Police Force or RCMP incident release specifically dated August 22 in the available official search results.

Important public-safety item: today’s biggest immediate concern is weather-related. Environment Canada warns that heavy rainfall could cause water pooling on roads and localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

🚧 Traffic

Confirmed: Germain Street and North Market Street are closed to through traffic today from 8 a.m. to midnight for the City Market 150th Anniversary Party. Germain Street is closed between North Market Street and King Street in both directions.

📰 Important local news

The Saint John City Market is preparing for its 150th anniversary. The City has launched a public-art opportunity for a new mural celebrating the market’s history and community role. The submission deadline is September 4, with the mural planned for unveiling in October.

The City is also seeking resident input on the municipal budget, one of the latest major City announcements.

Blue Jays Update — August 22, 2026

Blue Jays Update — August 22, 2026

The Jays dropped a 3–1 decision to the Yankees Friday night. Spencer Jones hit a two-run homer for New York, while Alejandro Kirk extended his hitting streak to 10 games with Toronto’s only RBI.

Toronto: 63–67, currently 4th in the AL East, 14 games behind Tampa Bay and 1½ games behind Boston for third.

🔥 The good news

  • Toronto is 6–4 over its last 10 games.
  • The Jays recently took a series from Tampa Bay, winning 5–1 on Aug. 20 behind three home runs and seven strong innings from Shane Bieber.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is nearing a return from concussion protocol, a potentially major boost for the lineup.

🚨 The concern

Toronto continues to struggle to turn opportunities into runs. Against the Yankees, the Jays went just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Today’s game: Toronto sends Dylan Cease (7–5, 2.42 ERA) against New York’s Ryan Weathers (5–7, 3.56 ERA). Bottom line: The Jays are still in the playoff chase, but the margin is getting thinner. Guerrero’s return and improved run production could be critical over the next few weeks.
