Extreme Heat Coming to New Brunswick

Extreme Heat Coming to New Brunswick

Residents across southern and eastern New Brunswick are being urged to prepare for a significant stretch of hot and humid weather, with Environment and Climate Change Canada issuing heat warnings for much of the region.

What to Expect

  • 🌡️ Daytime highs: Up to 33°C
  • 💧 Humidex values: 36 to 39, making it feel much hotter
  • 🌙 Overnight lows: 15°C to 18°C, offering limited relief from the heat
  • 📅 The hot, humid air mass is expected to persist through much of the week.

Health Risks

Extreme heat can affect anyone, but the greatest risk is for:

  • Older adults
  • Young children
  • People with chronic medical conditions
  • Outdoor workers
  • Those without access to air conditioning

Early signs of heat-related illness include:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Intense fatigue
  • Excessive thirst
  • Dark-coloured urine

If symptoms develop, move to a cooler place, drink water, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.

Staying Safe

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
  • Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
  • Check on neighbours, friends, and family members who may be vulnerable.

Why It Matters

Heat waves are becoming more common in New Brunswick. Provincial health officials say climate change is increasing the frequency of extreme heat events, making heat preparedness increasingly important
