Cake Day

Cake Day is on November 26. Have your cake and eat it too on one of the greatest holidays ever invented.

Also known as National Cake Day, this unofficial holiday whose origins are unknown, celebrates and honors cake, the food of champions.

Used for Religious Ceremonies

Cake has been everyone’s favorite dessert since ancient times, though the earliest cakes were more like bread and were usually sweetened with honey. These cakes were mostly used for religious purposes and in religious and cultural ceremonies and were usually round in shape since they were made and molded by hands.

These days, advances in baking technology have made cake baking and decorating a specialized culinary field with bakers and decorators constantly trying to create elaborate, gravity defying cakes.

Symbol of Celebration

In modern times, cake is seen as a symbol of celebration. Most special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and weddings prominently feature cakes.

In popular culture, the term cake day is also sometimes used to refer to one’s birthday. On the popular social media website Reddit, the term is used when marking the anniversary of the day a member’s username was born. Users usually add an icon of a cake next to their names on that day.

FYI…

…that the term cake comes from the Old Norse word kaka?

Several major automobile insurance companies are seeking approval to raise premiums they charge in New Brunswick by 10 per cent or more, blaming rising vehicle repair costs, car thefts, falling profits and other troubles.

The requests come as New Brunswick consumers have been battered in recent years by record housing, food and electricity prices and are “struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living,” according to the New Brunswick government’s recent speech from the throne.

If approved, auto insurance increase requests above 10 per cent will eventually affect more than 200,000 New Brunswick passenger vehicles. Most of the requests still need to be reviewed by the New Brunswick Insurance Board.

The search continues for a 48-year-old man from the Kennebecasis Valley area missing for nearly three months.

David Mitchell was last seen in Whites Mountain on Sept. 9 and was reported missing two weeks later, according to RCMP.

Police are now treating his disappearance as suspicious and are investigating to determine if criminality was involved.

Supporters held a protest outside the Hampton RCMP detachment over the weekend to bring attention to the case.

“Police are looking for any new details about his disappearance, even if they seem small,” RCMP said in a news release on Nov. 14.

“It is important to report anything that may help further the investigation directly to police and not speculate or share information on social media platforms. This information could help locate him.”

Mounties are asking anyone with information to contact Sussex RCMP at 506-433-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
