Jays Keep Their Playoff Hopes Alive
The Toronto Blue Jays are making their September playoff push interesting.
Toronto defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6–3 on Thursday, completing a series victory and moving to 70–71 on the season. The win pulled the Blue Jays to within half a game of Cleveland for the final American League Wild Card position.
Toronto has now won two straight games and is 6–4 over its last 10. With September underway, every game has become increasingly important.
🔥 Lukes Comes Through
Nathan Lukes delivered one of the game’s biggest hits, driving in two runs with a double during Toronto’s four-run fifth inning.
Rookie Brett Bateman also had a three-hit game, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Jesús Sánchez contributed RBIs. The Blue Jays’ bullpen then held Cleveland scoreless over the final innings.
Louis Varland closed out the victory for his 32nd save of the season.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had an outstanding game in Wednesday’s 11–0 victory over Cleveland, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run and five RBIs.
The Blue Jays will need more production from their star first baseman as they chase a postseason berth.

Toronto now travels to Kansas City for a three-game series against the Royals.

🏥 Injury Watch
There is some encouraging news on the pitching front.
Jameson Taillon is tentatively scheduled to return Friday against Kansas City after working his way back from right forearm tendinitis.
Top prospect Trey Yesavage is also progressing toward a possible late-season return. He is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session on September 4 following meniscus surgery.
Outfielder Anthony Santander could potentially begin a Triple-A rehabilitation assignment in mid-September, giving Toronto a chance to get him back for the late-season playoff push.
