Decorations Up Until January 6

Why You Should Leave Your Christmas Decorations Up Until January 6

As the holiday season winds down, you might be wondering when it’s the “right” time to take down your Christmas decorations. Many believe taking them down too early is cutting the season short—and some even think it might bring bad luck! Here’s why keeping your decorations up until January 6 is not only traditional but also meaningful:

1. The 12 Days of Christmas

The Christmas season doesn’t actually end on December 25—it begins! The “12 Days of Christmas” refers to the days between Christmas Day and January 6, known as Epiphany or Three Kings’ Day. This period celebrates the journey of the Wise Men to meet baby Jesus. By keeping your decorations up, you’re honoring the full season of joy and tradition.

2. Avoiding Bad Luck?

Some superstitions say that taking down your Christmas tree or decorations before January 6 invites bad luck for the new year. While this might just be a fun belief, why risk it? Plus, keeping your home lit up and festive for just a little longer can help keep the post-holiday blues at bay.

3. Celebrate Epiphany

Epiphany, celebrated on January 6, is a significant day in the Christian calendar. It’s a time to reflect on the end of the Christmas story and to mark the official close of the holiday season. It’s the perfect day to have one last festive moment before packing everything away until next year.

So, embrace the magic of the season for all 12 days of Christmas, and don’t be too quick to pack away the holiday cheer. January 6 will be here soon enough—and after that, it’s time to look forward to a fresh and lucky new year.

Gas Prices Rise

Gas Prices Rise Again in New Brunswick: Here’s What You Need to Know

Residents of New Brunswick woke up to another round of fuel price increases today, with the cost of essentials like gas, diesel, and furnace oil climbing overnight.

  • Regular self-serve gasoline saw a hike of 1.3 cents per litre, pushing the maximum cost to approximately $1.60.
  • Diesel prices jumped even higher, rising 2.3 cents per litre to a new high of $1.82.
  • Furnace oil, critical for home heating, wasn’t spared either. Its price increased by 2.4 cents per litre, now sitting at $1.51.

These increases are part of a continuing trend that has put added financial pressure on households and businesses across the province. With winter in full swing, the furnace oil hike is especially concerning for families who rely on it to keep their homes warm during the cold months.

While the reasons for these price surges can often be tied to global market fluctuations and supply issues, the impact is felt close to home. Many New Brunswickers are left wondering how to stretch their budgets to accommodate these rising costs.
