Hamburger Day

Celebrate the humble, but delicious hamburger on May 28, Hamburger Day.

While the hamburger owes its name to the city of Hamburg in Germany, the hamburger, as it is known and loved today worldwide – a meat patty wedged inside two slices of bun, is distinctly an American invention.

The unofficial holiday is also sometimes known as National Hamburger Day.

What To Do?

  • Eat hamburgers for all your meals on this day.
  • Gourmet up your burgers by adding toppings like caramelized onions and mushrooms and blue cheese.
  • Host a backyard barbecue and treat your guests to delicious homemade burgers.

FYI

…that during the Second World War, American soldiers tried to rename the hamburger as liberty burger.

Chief Robert Bruce, on behalf of the Saint John Police, is pleased to announce 6-year-old Sophia Lord is the winner of the 2024 Chief for a Day contest.

Sophia enjoys helping others. Like any good police officer, she is dedicated to keeping things safe and orderly, whether it is helping her teacher clean up after things get messy, sharing toys with her cousin, or books with her brother.

“Sophia’s actions demonstrate the values that are required to be a model police officer. Her unique way of fostering joy and happiness for everyone around her serves as an outstanding example for all to follow.” Chief R.M. Bruce

The Saint John Police will be proud to serve under Chief Lord when she visits Peel Plaza for a day next month.

We would also like to thank all students who entered this year’s contest.
