On Monday, October 28, 2024, the accused was arrested without incident and remains in custody. He was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm during the arrest.

The Saint John Police is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Rye Watt, who is wanted in relation to a weapons offense investigation.

It is reported that:

On Saturday, October 26, 2024, at approximately 8:44 p.m., police responded to a report that someone was shot in the 10-block of Richmond Street.

On arrival, officers located a 28-year-old man who had allegedly been shot. He was transported to the hospital and treated for serious injuries.

The Saint John Police Major Crime Unit were called to investigate. The scene was searched by patrol officers, a canine unit, as well as a member of the Forensic Identification section.

21-year-old Rye WATT is wanted in connection with this incident as a result of the investigation conducted by Saint John Police. WATT is also wanted in relation to a Canada-Wide warrant for being unlawfully at large that was issued on October 26, 2024.

Watt is described as approximately 5’7 inches tall, 150 lbs. He has brown hair, thick eyebrows, and a thin moustache/goatee.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area that has dash-cam or video surveillance of the incident at the time it occurred.

Police are warning the public to not approach the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force at 1-506-648-3333, or if you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or 1-800-222-T.I.P.S.

International Animation Day

October 28 is International Animation Day. It’s a day to recognize and celebrate the artists, the scientists and the technicians behind animated art including animated movies.

Created by the International Animated Film Association (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation) in 2002, the unofficial holiday commemorates the day in 1892 when Charles-Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique made its first public appearance at the Grevin Museum in Paris, France.
